What’s Hot for 2011?

A new year brings new trends for wedding land

Style
Rustic and vintage (still) are both in. These styles are perfect for the current economic climate  – you can have a pretty wedding on the cheap. The other great thing about these styles is that they are not cookie cutter styles. Every bride that goes for the rustic or vintage look can be almost certain that her day will be unique.

Start digging out your mum and grandma’s old things and browse charity shops and you’ll soon have the ingredients for something beautiful. Match that with the outdoors, (given our British weather you might want to consider ways of bringing the outdoors in!),  nature, recycled props, and pretty DIY for the personal touch, and your wedding will be one that everyone’s talking about.

Colours
For 2011, there are two camps: keeping it neutral, and rocking it loud.

The neutralists are liking grey, taupe, flesh tone, khaki type colours as a background. Add splashes of colour, such as the Pantone colour of the year – Honeysuckle, and you’ll end up with an ultra stylish wedding.

The loud lot are liking exotic colours such as orange, lime green, fuchsia pink, yellow and doing crazy mixes. Whichever camp you belong to, it doesn’t matter as long as it is done your way, your style. Which leads us nicely on to the next trend…

Fashion
It’s all about individualism this year, no more matchy-matchy. No longer do you need to worry if ALL your bridesmaids will suit/like a particular style or colour of outfit, it’s OK for them to each wear their own style. That will save you huge headaches – smiles all round!

For fabrics, this year continues with lace, lace and more lace.

Reception
The 2010 trends of dessert tables and candy bars still continue, (let’s face it, not everyone likes fruit cake) but done with the styling mentioned above in mind – think lace draped tables, laden with recycled jam jars, filled with old school sweets, and paper bags for guests to pack their goodies in…

Fun photo booths for guests, stocked with fun props (vintage hats, open picture frames, shawls etc) are a great way of entertaining guests and getting people to mingle. Photo booths have travelled across the pond from our American cousins and will be common place in wedding receptions this year. No doubt as the evening  wears on, the photo compositions and poses will become more and more interesting!

Planning
The advent of smart phones has revolutionised the way we live our lives and indeed plan our weddings. With a choice of wedding planning apps out there, bringing the wedding that’s in your head to reality is a breeze.

So wrapping up, 2011 is a year moving away from the usual, revisiting the past, individualism, recycling, doing-it -yourself, pretty looking, without breaking the bank and planned in the palm of your hand.

Poppy Jo is born!

by Matt and Nikki, January 2009

Poppy Jo is our three year old daughter, she is always having fun, enjoying life and makes us both intensely proud, so much so that we have put her name to our venture with which we both share a great passion.

After our own wedding we begun the project ‘Poppy Jo’, to create and make professionally designed wedding stationery available to all. We discovered during our wedding planning that good designs, choice and co-ordinated stationery wasn’t easy to find and some printers weren’t particularly helpful in giving us what we wanted, and sometimes quoted us extortionate prices.

Poppy Jo is going to be an online wedding stationery service that we hope will be the best available anywhere in the world! We believe our team of hand-picked, in-house designers and production artists have put together a superb collection, with new additions to each range being added weekly!

With over two decades of our experience in business to call upon and with a very successful online company already thriving, we truly believe in our people and the service we are offering. Even in the current economic climate we have every intention of becoming a huge success!

Poppy Jo has become so much more already, with a large and growing list of global wedding contributors and international media interest. Poppy Jo may yet prove to be the greatest source of ‘all things wedding’ for anyone who is planning their own wedding or helping with the celebrations – whether it is next year or even next week – from the dress, the flowers, the cake, the invitations, through to the poetry, couples stories and wedding inspiration.

Poppy Jo wants you to be involved, leave your comments below or contact us if you would like to be part of the success!

We very much look forward to seeing and speaking to you soon
Matt & Nikki Clover

Hi, i would like to thank you for making life a little easier for me on organising my and my sister’s blessing. I would highly recommend this webpage and people involved, for anyone who is getting married it is super. The assistance and suggestions i was given to help the day go smoothly have helped immensely. I needed inspiration on how to have the ceremony printed and i could not fault the suggestion i was given, such that, that was what i chose straight away. Again thank you, all i need to work on now is the day itself which will be in a couple of weeks.
